Last updated 11 September 2026

Dawnlist runs on your computer. Your CVs, your fit brief, your background factsheet, your tracker and every draft it writes stay on your machine.

Dawnlist uses your own Anthropic API key to read job postings and draft messages. That conversation is between you and Anthropic, on your account. Those documents are never sent to Dawnlist's own servers, and Dawnlist never holds a copy of them.

What reaches Dawnlist's servers is the job search itself — the search terms and filters you save — a count of how much you have used, so a licence cannot be shared by a thousand people, and identifiers of postings already shown, so the same posting is not fetched and charged for twice. Once there is something to buy, a record that the terms were accepted is kept as well. The Windows edition downloaded from this website also checks at most once a day for a newer version. Each is set out in full below.

No document ever does. Not a curriculum vitae, not the factsheet, not a draft, not an assessment, and never the content of a posting.

Dawnlist does not sell data, does not use it for advertising, and does not build a profile of you for anyone else's benefit.

Who is responsible

Spencer Fields, a sole trader established in the United Kingdom. Lytchett House, 13 Freeland Park, Wareham Road, Lytchett Matravers, Poole, BH16 6FA, United Kingdom. Registered with the Information Commissioner's Office as a data controller.

What stays on your computer

Stored in your operating system's application-data folder, and never transmitted to Dawnlist:

Your Anthropic API key and your licence key are held in your operating system's credential manager (Windows Credential Manager, or the macOS Keychain), not in a file Dawnlist writes.

You can export all of it, or delete all of it, from within the app. Deleting it removes it from your machine; there is no copy elsewhere to ask us for.

What goes to Anthropic, on your key

To assess a posting or draft a message, Dawnlist sends to Anthropic:

This uses the API key you supply, on your own Anthropic account. Dawnlist is not a party to it and holds no copy. Anthropic's handling of that data is governed by your agreement with them and their own policies — worth reading, at anthropic.com/legal. You can revoke the key at any time, in their console, and Dawnlist will stop working rather than fall back to anything else.

What goes to Dawnlist's servers

Three things reach Dawnlist's feed and licence service, and nothing else. The Windows edition downloaded from this website also checks for updates, as the next section sets out.

Job searches. The search terms, job titles, locations and filters you save are sent to Dawnlist's feed service, which queries job-data providers and returns matching postings. These are searches, not documents: no CV, no factsheet, no draft, and no assessment ever passes through this service.

Licence and usage counts. Your licence key, whether it is active, and a daily count of how many postings were returned to it. Counts only — never the postings themselves, and never their content. This is what stops one licence being shared indefinitely.

Identifiers of postings you have already been shown. So that the same posting is not fetched, and charged for, twice. Identifiers only — never the posting, never its content, and never anything you did with it. Nothing in this list says whether you pursued a posting, rejected it or ignored it.

Our servers log errors by type, never by content.

Update checks — Windows download from this website only

The edition downloaded from this website checks at most once a day whether a newer version exists, by fetching a small file from dawnlist.spencerfields.com. Like any web request it carries your IP address, and it carries the application's version number. It carries no licence key, no document and nothing about your search. The Microsoft Store and Mac App Store editions make no such check; their stores update them.

Payment

Who takes the payment depends on where Dawnlist was installed from.

From inside the Microsoft Store edition, the subscription is sold and billed by Microsoft under its own privacy statement at privacy.microsoft.com.

From the Mac App Store, the subscription is handled by Apple, which acts as the merchant of record and processes the payment under its own privacy policy at apple.com/legal/privacy. Apple does not pass on your name, your email address or your billing address. What reaches Dawnlist is the App Store receipt confirming that a subscription is active, and nothing else.

Payment card details are never seen by, or stored by, Spencer Fields.

What is kept on this side is a record that a particular subscriber accepted a particular version of the terms: the customer and transaction identifiers the payment provider supplies, the email address on the transaction where one is provided, the version of the terms accepted, and the date and time. No address is recorded for it, and no separate record of location is kept.

That record exists because the data licence behind the job feed requires subscribers to be bound by written terms, and a record of acceptance is the evidence that they were.

How long things are kept

Different records are kept for different lengths of time, because they exist for different reasons.

Job postings themselves

Postings come from third-party job-data providers and are public listings. They may contain the names of recruiters or hiring managers, which Dawnlist stores locally alongside the posting so you can see who to contact. That information is not shared onward.

What Dawnlist never does

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold, object to processing, or request a copy in a portable format. Most of this you can do yourself, immediately, from inside the app, because almost everything is on your own machine.

For what our servers hold — your licence and usage counts — write to Apps@spencerfields.com. We will respond within one month.

You may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

International transfers

Dawnlist's feed service runs on Cloudflare's global network, so a search may be processed outside the United Kingdom. Requests you make to Anthropic go to the United States, under your own agreement with them. These transfers rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the providers' own safeguards.

Children

Dawnlist is a tool for people looking for work and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

Changes

Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect, not only posted here. The date at the top shows the current version.
